We are so excited to get started on our project this year!
So far, we've got an opportunity brewing to take part in a Go Baby Go build in Kyle so Alyssa and I can learn the ropes to be able to bring everything great about Go Baby Go to Project Zoom Zoom in Austin. This has not been easy to set up, we're still waiting on email verification from our contact in San Antonio's Go Baby Go chapter to schedule a design session with the family, but hopefully we'll be designing a car soon.
We've also applied for funding to jump start our builds at the Awesome Foundation, which is a great opportunity to be able to pay for our future builds.
If you'd like to help us out with collecting funds for our builds, great! We're always looking for help, just contact us at zoomzoomproject@gmail.com.
This last week I took place in a Go Baby Go webinar hosted by ITEEX, and learned some information to help us with our design here at Project Zoom Zoom, as well as those of you interested in taking place in any future builds (Coming Soon!):
THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN DESIGNING A CAR FOR A CHILD:
- What is the child’s disability?
-Can the child support their body alone?
-Can they support their head/neck alone?
-Can they move their arms?
-Where would they be using the car?
-How much control over the car should the child have?
-What are their likes/dislikes for the car?
Just some things for us to keep in mind moving forward.
Speaking of moving forward, here's the rundown on the next few weeks:
-Schedule a design session with a family in Kyle to design a car for their kiddo
-Our friend Caroline (the real MVP) knows the Principal of a school for disabled children in Austin, which would be a great contact to find candidates to build cars for! We plan on talking to her more about that next week
Watch out for more posts to stay posted.
Thanks for all your support!
