Workshop Plans

Hey Zoomies!

We are so excited to say that we will be hosting our first workshop on Saturday, May 4th! We will be building three cars for wonderful little kiddos. McKenna and I have met with all the parents and picked out/ordered the cars. We have started putting the cars together in preparation for our workshop! In the next two weeks a lot of preparation needs to be done to make sure that everything is perfect on May 4th. Not only do we have our workshop set up, we are in the process of setting up our drive day event! We are very excited about this, it's a time for the families to come, receive and test the cars while celebrating with food.

Our biggest setback right now is in planning for the future, we are still in need of sponsors in order to pay for everything. Though monetary aid is a concern for the future we have enough money for this workshop. Our family, friends, and parents/students from our school have been very generous. We also have a prospective partner in AMD, working with a previous teacher's daughter to get funding. This would greatly help our project continue. There is also the possibility of working with the Knights of Columbus. If neither of these go through and we can't find other companies, then we will have to push this project to one where we only pay for the modifications.

A lot of what we have learned in the past month is working around other people. McKenna and I both have busy schedules of our own, so working around ours and others to set up meetings, workshops and drive days, gets complicated very quickly. Not only that, but working with regulations as well, as we need a teacher for whenever we are in the school working. We also need to get permission to use the gym for our drive day event.

Over the next month McKenna and I will be working with our two soon-to-be leaders of the project, to make sure that they have everything that they need. We will start handing down the power to them, and having them get more and more involved. Additionally we will host our workshop and drive day, hopefully inviting KXAN to the drive day event!

This will be the last post from McKenna and I. It's hard to believe that we have already gone through an entire school year. Project Zoom Zoom has been such an amazing experience, getting to meet some really nice people, making differences in kids lives, and learning a lot of important skills. Just the other day McKenna and I talked about how much this project has improved our ability to reach out, send emails, and really get things done. It's taken a lot of growing to get to where we are from just thinking this idea was cool, a lot of forcing ourselves to take charge and get things done. I must say this has been probably my favorite thing that I have worked on all of senior year and will be very sad to say goodbye, but am very excited to see where the wonderful two ladies taking over will do with it.

Thank you everyone who has helped us with this project.

Signing out,

Alyssa and McKenna <3
